What is the micro hybrid, it is a small Hybrid rocket motor that is D to E power.

The micro hybrid requires no additional ground support than the standard Estes motor except the hex key that is supplied and a pair of circlip pliers.

The Micro Hybrid is powered by ISI cream charger bulbs and hence no expensive NOX tanks and specialist launch controller is required.

The Dimensions of the micro hybrid are 22mm 7/8" diameter by 153mm 6" long plus approx 10mm for the arming screw at the front.

Depending on fuel grain you use they are high D to E power.

There is no thrust curve for the motor but theoretical values for the new nylon fuel grain have been developed there are no values for the paper grains the nylon details are below, this is based on the standard injector and nozzle that comes with the kit but you can request custom items with different size's as optional extras. I hope to have some one put one on a test stand soon so will let you all know the real world results.

21N for 0.87Second = 18.24Ns Injector diameter is 0.6mm

For the Micro hybrid you do not need an explosive's certificate but you have to find a way to initiate it, I have used spare Aerotech delay grains, Aerotech D24 fuel grains and black powder mixed with pva ( not currently legal in the uk ) and I guess pyrodex would work as well which officially you don't require an explosives certificate for but some area's do ask to see your explosives certificate before they will sell you it! It has also been suggested but not tested to use slow match fuse. One person has even used a small electronic solenoid a 1.2mm needle and a small welding kit oxygen bottle to deliver an oxygen rich atmosphere just before ignition of an igniter similar to the way a Hypertec is lit but with an igniter instead of the spark although a spark should work as well.

Recommended Rockets Well any 24mm min diameter that can be modified to take a 6.25" motor (the motor has a thrust ring) and has an electronics bay.

I will only recommend recovery electronics that I have had great success with. These being

Robert Galejs magnetic apogee sensor

and the

Perfect Flight Micro Alt

Both suppliers have shipped to the UK as both are USA based but the Magnetic apogee sensor can now be purchased in the UK.
